Why a book

A great book never stops working for you.

For a leader, it is a salesperson who never sleeps. It sits on a buyer's desk when you are not in the room, and gets you meetings a cold call never could.

For a family, it is how a voice stays in the house. How grandchildren who never met her still get to know her. How a life becomes a gift that is handed on.

“Anyone can buy flowers. Very few people give someone their book.”

The people behind the books

Some stories should not end with us.

Every book starts with someone who has something worth keeping.

For her daughter

Dolapo Awofala

Imperfectly Beautiful Journey is a guided keepsake journal for a mother to share her life with her daughter. Thirty-seven chapters, from her first school days to her marriage, motherhood, career and faith, each opening with a warm note from Mom and space to write in her own hand. Not a book to be read, but one to be filled, one memory at a time, and passed down.

For his heritage

Nana K. Osei Bonsu

Nana carried the spirit of Ashanti with him all his life: its courage, its duty, its quiet strength. The Last Guardian of Ashanti put that legacy on paper, a story of a guardian chosen not by readiness but by responsibility, for his family and everyone who comes after.

“For a husband of forty years

A journey of faith, written down at last

For years she told friends how her faith carried her through. She always meant to write it down. We interviewed her chapter by chapter, wrote it in her voice, and published it with a dedication on the first page to the husband who walked every step with her.

For the leaders she raises

Trish Odusami

Trish has spent her life developing leaders. Rising Leaders and The Key to Leadership took what she teaches in the room to people she may never meet.

Memoir and life story writing

Write your life story without writing a word.

Many of the people we write for are mothers and grandmothers. They raised families, built careers, kept their faith and lived through things their grandchildren can hardly imagine. They do not want to sit at a keyboard. They want someone patient to ask the right questions and get it right.

How it works for you

We talk by phone or video, wherever you live in the United States, at times that suit your time zone. An hour or two at a time. We record, transcribe and write it in your voice, and you read every chapter.

What goes in it

The town you grew up in. How you met. The children, the hard years and the good ones. Your faith, your recipes, the lessons you want passed on. Old photographs and letters too.

What your family gets

A finished memoir in hardcover and paperback, shipped to your door, ready for a birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas or a family reunion. Private to the family, or on Amazon if you wish.

Who this is for

Most of our authors look like this.

  • You are a mother or grandmother with a lifetime of stories your family should keep.
  • You have lived a life, or built a career, worth writing down.
  • You want your family to keep your stories, or your clients to understand your thinking.
  • You have twenty years of knowledge in your head and no time to write it down.
  • You sell something valuable that needs trust before anyone buys. Consulting, advice, funds, coaching.
  • You want it done properly, by people who listen.

Will it be a bestseller?

Probably not, unless you put a serious marketing budget behind it. We will not promise you one.

What we will promise is a book that does its job: opens doors, closes deals, or stays in a family for generations.

Not for mass market books or anyone chasing a badge.

How it works

Everything handled, start to finish.

You bring the stories, or the manuscript if you already have one. A few hours of your time on calls. Everything else is on our team.

  1. A plan first

Before we write a word, we agree who the book is for and what it needs to do for them.

  2. The concept

We shape the idea, the title and the chapters around the people you want to reach.

  3. The writing, if you need it

No manuscript yet? You talk, we write. Our writers and editors turn your conversations into a finished manuscript in your voice. Already written it? We pick up from there.

  4. Publishing

Editing, cover design, interior layout, ISBN and printing, in paperback, hardcover and Kindle. You do not touch any of it.

  5. Website and launch

A simple website for the book and a plan to put it in the right hands, if you want it out in the world.

  6. Copies in their hands

Printed books delivered, ready to give. The moment you hand one over is the moment it was all for.

Weeks 1 to 2Plan and concept

Case study
2 months

A dentist's book about confidence paid for itself.

Instead of a brochure about dentistry, Dr. Eraldo Fezaj gave patients a book about what a smile does for a person's confidence. They passed it on, and referred the people they gave it to.

Read before you decide

See how the writing reads.

The worry everyone has is that the book will read like a template. Judge for yourself. Read the opening of Why and How to Write a Book by Amir Anzur, written on exactly this subject, and decide whether it sounds like a person or a machine.

Investment

One fixed fee. No surprises.

A book outlives everything else you could spend this on. Both packages take you all the way to printed copies in their hands. The only difference is who writes it.

Private unless you say yes.

Your name goes on the cover, not ours. Everything shared in our conversations stays private, and everyone on our team signs a confidentiality agreement. We only feature an author, a book or a story on our website if they ask us to or we ask first and they say yes. If you would rather keep your book between you and your family, it stays that way.

Questions

Straight answers.

How much does it cost to have a memoir ghostwritten?

At aartec, a ghostwritten memoir is $3,500 with one of our professional ghostwriters, or $9,500 with one of our most senior master ghostwriters. Both include everything through to printed hardcover and paperback copies in your hands. Both are fixed fees in US dollars. Many memoir ghostwriters in the US charge $20,000 or more for the writing alone. Message us to start and we will send payment details. Paying in stages is fine, just ask.

How do I write my life story if I am not a writer?

You talk and we write. A ghostwriter interviews you by phone or video, an hour or two at a time, records the conversations and writes your memoir in your own voice. You read each chapter and tell us what feels right. You never face a blank page.

I am in my seventies and not good with computers. Can I still do this?

Yes. All you need is a telephone. We write with authors of every age, and a son, daughter or grandchild is welcome to help with email and photographs. We go at your pace.

Do you work with families anywhere in the United States?

Yes, in all 50 states. Conversations happen by phone or video at times that suit your time zone, and printed copies are shipped to your door, or straight to your children and grandchildren.

Can I give a book as a surprise gift?

Yes. Many of our books are gifts from children and grandchildren. We work with you and the family to gather the stories, photographs and memories, and plan the book for a birthday, an anniversary, Mother's Day, Christmas or a family reunion.

Do you guarantee a bestseller?

No, and we would not take your money for one. A manipulated one hour category ranking is vanity, not a result. Success is the book in the right hands: revenue, doors opened, speaking invitations, or a family that keeps it forever.

My mother is not a writer. Can she still have a book?

Yes. That is exactly who we write for. She only needs to talk. We ask the questions, record the conversations and write the book in her voice. She reads it and tells us what feels right.

How will a book help my business?

A book sells for you when you are not in the room, because a buyer who reads your thinking trusts you before the first meeting. It opens doors, since event organizers and senior people take an author seriously. And it makes you sharper, because putting twenty years of experience into a clear book forces you to work out exactly what you do and why it matters.

If you ghostwrite it, will anyone find out?

Not from us. Your name goes on the cover and ours does not. Confidentiality is written into our agreement and every writer and editor signs it. We only ever mention you, your book or your story on our website or anywhere else if you say yes first. Plenty of the books on your shelf were written this way.

How long does it take, and how much of my time?

Four to sixteen weeks from first call to a finished printed book. Around four weeks if you already have a manuscript, longer if we write it with you. Most of your input is recorded conversations, an hour or two at a time. You never sit in front of a blank page.

What if I already have a manuscript?

Even better. We take your manuscript through editing, design, ISBN, printing, Amazon, the website and the launch.

Who owns the book?

You do. The copyright, the files, the Amazon listing and every royalty are yours. Reprint, translate or update it whenever you like.

Can I introduce someone?

Please do. We take good care of the people you introduce, and if they go ahead we thank you with 20% of their fee, as cash or as a discount for them. Details are on the introductions page.
